Re Portland airtel to Bureau, 12/7/76.

Referenced Portland airtel set forth the details of extensive media contacts during November, 1976, with regard to the case entitled "NORJAK, BuFile 164-2111, PD file 164-41, OO: Seattle." These inquiries were generated as a result of the fifth anniversary of the crime, 11/24/76.

Following the publicity attached to the anniversary, the Portland and Los Angeles Offices were contacted by [REDACTED] ALLEN LANDSBERG PRODUCTIONS, Los Angeles, California, regarding the possibility of producing a documentary concerning the case. [REDACTED] expressed his desire to use the story as a pilot program for a series to be entitled "Still at Large." The series would deal with still uncaptured criminals and would feature a reward offer of $10,000. He stated that no additional information would be needed in addition to that which has already been published.

The request was outlined telephonically to Deputy Assistant Director HOMER BOYNTON by SA [REDACTED] Portland Media Relations Coordinator, on 12/23/76, and Inspector BOYNTON gave permission for Portland to assist the production company.

On 12/27/76, a conference between ASAC and the production crew was held at the Portland Office. The production crew indicated a strong desire to interview the Special Agent most knowledgeable and experienced with investigation; in this case, SA [REDACTED] Deputy Assistant Director FRANK J. ILLIG, External Affairs Division, agreed with SAC and ASAC, Portland, recommendations that SA [REDACTED] should be used on the program. SA [REDACTED] had previously been interviewed live and on film concerning the Norjak matter with SAC permission.

---

On 12/27 and 12/28/76, SA [REDACTED] assisted the production crew. This included a taped narrative filmed in an aircraft flying over the suspected bail-out area and other taped interviews.

---

The Portland Office has been advised by [REDACTED] Allen Landsberg Productions, that in the event the series "Still at Large" is not marketed that this particular program will be aired as a part of a present series "In Search Of" starring LEONARD NIMOY. [REDACTED] will attempt to provide Portland with a copy of the tape and a prospective distribution date.
