A person reads every report. Corrections are made by hand, to the data — titles, dates, names, which pages belong together — never to the scans, and they can take a while to appear.

REPORT of the

FBI LABORATORY

FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION WASHINGTON, D. C. 20535

To: SAC, New York (164-827) Date: January 5, 1972 FBI File No. 164-2111 Re: NORJAK Lab. No. D-711222011 LL

---

Specimens received 12/21/71

Q33 Envelope postmarked "U. S. POSTAL SERV O AM 11 DEC 1971," bearing typewritten address "Managing Editor New York Times Newspaper New York, New York"

Q34 Accompanying one-page typewritten letter beginning "Sirs, I knew from the start . . ." and ending "D.B. COOPER"

Result of examination:

Specimens Q34, Q24, Q26 and Q28 are carbon copies of the same original letter with the exception of the numbers at the bottom of these items.

The typewriting on Q33 and Q34 most closely matches a pica style of type used on Singer electric typewriters. It is noted, however, that similar styles of pica type are found on Smith-Corona typewriters.

No watermarks; indented writing or other features were found on Q33 and Q34 which would be of value in determining the source of these specimens.

Q33 and Q34 were photographed and will be returned separately.
