Legat, Tokyo concerning LAWRENCE. This file indicated LAWRENCE was once employed as a navigator by Flying Tiger Airlines and had claimed, under suspicious circumstances, that money was stolen from his hotel room in Hong Kong.

On 1/18/72, records of the California Department of Motor-Vehicles revealed HAROLD JOHN LAWRENCE, JR., born 12/21/33, had resided at 3004 Poinsettia, Manhattan Beach, California, as of 5/26/70.

Investigation revealed LAWRENCE had moved from the above address in early 1971 to 1813 Meadows Avenue, Manhattan Beach. On 1/24/72, a neighbor advised that LAWRENCE resides at 1813 Meadows Avenue with his wife and six-year old son and recalled LAWRENCE having driven her and her family home from Los Angeles International Airport on 11/26/71. She did not see LAWRENCE on 11/24/71, as she was in Alabama.

On 2/7/72, LAWRENCE was interviewed by SA's [REDACTED] and C. ROBERT STRANGER in the vicinity of his residence. He stated he had no knowledge whatsoever of the hijacking of the Northwest Airlines plane in Seattle on 11/24/71. He claimed he was definitely in the Los Angeles area at that time stating he had Thanksgiving dinner with relatives, but could not readily recall where he had Thanksgiving dinner. LAWRENCE added that he was unemployed and would probably have been with [REDACTED] on 11/24/71. He stated he would consult with [REDACTED] in an effort to recall exactly where he was and who he was with on that date.

In view of LAWRENCE's vagueness as to where he spent Thanksgiving and the probability he will furnish names of close relatives to establish his whereabouts on 11/24/71, Seattle, Minneapolis and Portland are requested to display enclosed photographs to witnesses to ascertain if he should be considered a logical suspect.
