ASAC PAUL R. BIBLER

NORJAK

---

[REDACTED] called from Division 6 at 3:00 PM. b6 b7C

He referred to the N. York interview with FLEMING. He wanted to know if New York had called us. I said they had. He said that in view of the additional facts which FLEMING had given us, we should conduct vigorous investigation to try to establish the true facts in this matter. I told him we were already checking the motels at the airport; we were starting to locate a check on [REDACTED] we are attempting to obtain additional phone calls to any business phone which [REDACTED] might have.

I asked him what they had learned from the Bureau of Engraving with regard to the authenticity of 3 $20 bills which appear in the photographs. He said that the only thing they could say was that the top bill, which bears the notation in the upper left-hand corner C 4, does not appear to be absolutely correct, in that the serial number should start with L 5 492, rather than L5 490, or else the little number up in the corner should have been B 4.

He said the Bureau of Engraving had no explanation for this, although he said it was always possible they could have made an error.

With regard to the other 2 bills, they have no significant comment to make. In other words, they can determine nothing wrong with them.

I stated to [REDACTED] it is quite important to know b6 whether these bills are genuine or not. He said it would b7C appear without seeing the actual bills, we were not going to be able to establish more definite information.
