On November 28, 1971, JOHN MILLER, 10604 East Marginal Way South, Trailer #41, who has no telephone of his own, but who can be reached through the trailer court telephone RO2-1800, was at the Centralia Police Department, telephone 736-3374, and furnished the following information telephonically.

He is age 58, unemployed and was just "snooping around" in his car around the Tenino-Ducota area of Washington which is about 10 miles north and a little east of Centralia. At about 9:30 a.m. this date, while it was still foggy, he drove past a "snag" (meaning a tree), about 75 feet high, located fairly close to State Highway 507 which is the old Olympia-Seattle Highway in Thurston County.

He observed hanging from near the top of this snag something white which appeared to be cloth but which he could not make out distinctly from his car on the road. He was unable to estimate the size of this material because he could not see it plainly through the mist.

He thought possibly this material might be some- thing left over from the hijacker's descent by parachute from the hijacked plane a couple of days ago. He had no other knowledge of the hijacking and was unable to give a detailed description of the material he saw.

---

Officer [REDACTED] of the Centralia Police 164-81- 132 b6 Department also talked at the conclusion of Mr. MILLER's b7C conversation and said that State Highway 507 is the "old, old" Olympia - Seattle Road and that two have been built

since this was used for a main thoroughfare. He said this is in a different county than is the location of the tree mentioned by Mr. MILLER. He said it is about 20 miles from Olympia and about 50 miles from Centralia.

---

On instructions of ASAC BIBLER, the details of the above were given to SA ROBERT H. WICK who is proceeding to meet Mr. MILLER at the only bank in Tenino, located on the main thoroughfare.

---

Mr. MILLER was going to meet him there and show SA WICK the location of the snag.

---

ADDENDUM:

SA WICK advised by radio that he had gone to the scene of the sighting of the "snag" and found that it was an "illusion."

He said the thing that caused the complainant to call in was a piece of gray bark on a tree which SA WICK personally inspected and positively identified as the thing the complainant referred to as a snag.
