DOYLE BERRY, President, Berry Brothers Contractors, Berwick, Louisiana, was contacted at his place of business, where he related as follows:

BERRY advised that on January 17, 1973 he had met with ALVIN CURTIS HARTLEY at a hunting lodge near Meeker, Colo- rado, which he owns, the purpose of the meeting to further discuss with HARTLEY the sale by HARTLEY to BERRY of raw gold.

BERRY advised that in his contacts with HARTLEY, he apparently has gained HARTLEY'S confidence. BERRY advised that through his conversations with HARTLEY, HARTLEY is aware that BERRY has numerous contacts with political figures in Washington, D.C., especially with the Feral Aviation Administration.

BERRY stated that during his conversation with HARTLEY on January 17, 1973, HARTLEY asked him to ascertain if he (HARTLEY) was suspect in the "hijacking of a airplane over Washington or Oregon approximately one year ago, where $200,000 was received in twenty dollar bills under threat to blow up the plane." BERRY advised that when he queried HARTLEY as to why he wanted this information, HARTLEY was reluctant to reply, and just repeated his request.

BERRY advised that he asked HARTLEY how a hijacker could escape from such a plane, HARTLEY stated that he would have the pilot slow to almost "stall" speed, and exit would be made through the rear exit of the airplane. HARTLEY also commented that he had received previous training as a paratrooper during World War II.

BERRY advised that HARTLEY also commented that the money received in the hijacking was in twenty dollar bills, and that the bills were consecutive.

BERRY advised that he informed HARTLEY that he would attempt to comply with his request. BERRY stated that HARTLEY appeared very concerned that he was a suspect in the hijacking but would not indicate during the conversation why he felt that he was suspect in the hijacking.

BERRY advised that when he left HARTLEY, HARTLEY indicated that he was going to Grand Junction, Colorado, and BERRY advised him that he would attempt to find out if he was suspect in the hijacking and advise him.
