AGCO-R 201 Miles, Schuyler W., Jr. (37 Sep 48)

Dear Senator Martin:

I have received your letter of 27 September 1948, in the interest of Captain Schuyler W. Miles, Jr., 0493728, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, concerning a commission in the Regular Army.

Captain Miles was not selected for the Regular Army under the provi- sions of Public Laws 281 and 670 - 79th Congress, as his standing among the many officers who applied for a regular commission was not sufficiently high to permit his appointment. The statutory authority for the afore- mentioned integration program, under which Captain Miles applied, expired on 31 December 1947.

At the present time officers for the Regular Army are being procured through a competitive tour of active duty. As Captain Miles is within the age limitation, he may, if he so desires, file an application in accordance with instructions contained in Army Regulations 605-8, 17 August 1948, copy inclosed.

Your interest in Captain Miles is appreciated, and I assure you that if Captain Miles qualifies and files an application every consideration will be given to the matter of his selection.

With kindest regards and best wishes,
