TAPES INDICATE RENO DEPARTURE CONTROL (RADAR) MADE RADAR CONTACT WITH AIRCRAFT AT TEN THIRTYTWO P.M., PST, NOVEMBER TWENTYFOUR LAST, AT WHICH TIME AIRCRAFT FORTYTWO MILES NORTHWEST OF RENO AND OVER FRENCHMAN'S RESERVOIR, CALIFORNIA, ALTITUDE OF ELEVEN THOUSAND FEET.
AT TEN THIRTYFIVE P.M., AIRCRAFT MADE VOICE CONTACT WITH RENO TOWER AND TOWER GAVE APPROACH INSTRUCTIONS. AIRCRAFT STATED "WE ARE TRYING TO MAKE CONTACT WITH THE BACK NOW" (INDICATING CONTACT WITH HIJACKER) AND THAT THEY WERE GOING TO GET THE STEPS END PAGE ONE
