On 1/8/73, [REDACTED] Portland, Oregon ([REDACTED]), telephonically contacted the Portland Division. He advised that up to one year ago, he was [REDACTED] at the Carlton Hotel, 1502 Jefferson Avenue, Tacoma, Washington. While working in that capacity, he met RALPH GRIFFIN (PHONETIC), who was staying at the hotel with a friend, Latin decent, further description unknown. On the day before the captioned hijacking, GRIFFIN told him that he was tired of working for nothing and that he was going to get some money and go to Mexico. [REDACTED] recognized GRIFFIN's picture as the man known as D. B. COOPER and whose picture appeared in the newspaper subsequent to the hijacking. He stated that although FBI Agents visited the Carlton Hotel three weeks after the hijacking and talked to him regarding any information about the hijacking, he was afraid to come forward because of fears that GRIFFIN had friends who would seek revenge.

---

He further advised that a [REDACTED] telephone number [REDACTED] Tacoma, was working as [REDACTED] at that time at the Carlton, and she also agreed with [REDACTED] that GRIFFIN was the man whose picture appeared in the newspaper. [REDACTED] [REDACTED] with the Tacoma Police Department.

---

The caller stated he has [REDACTED], and this accounts for his delay in contacting the FBI.
