NORJAK

Re Anchorage letter to Seattle, 8/31/73.

---

On 9/21/73, [REDACTED] Lakeside Motel, Woodland, Washington, made available for review the registration cards of the motel for November, 1971, for Unit #7. These cards reflected that on 11/9/71, a man who gave his name as LLOYD M. BARNEY, 206 "C" Street, Tenino, Washington, registered at the motel. He listed his business affiliation as Manson-Osberg Company, with no address for the company listed. His car license for a 1971 Ford pickup was listed as Washington, GA 4568. The registration cards reflected that he checked into the motel on 11/9/71, had another registration card dated 11/16/71, and a third on 11/22/71. The 11/22/71 card was for one week, and this indicated that his rent was up and he left the motel on 11/29/71.

---

[REDACTED] advised that she never did see the man in Unit #7, and stated when she was in his room to change the linen during the period he was there, did not observe any walkie-talkie radios. Further, she stated she had no information that he paid his bills with $100 bills.

---

[REDACTED] advised that she and a friend, [REDACTED] was with her when she went to Unit #7 to straighten the room. [REDACTED] [REDACTED] at the Semaphore Cafe in Portland, Oregon, and works on [REDACTED] [REDACTED] Her home phone number [REDACTED] and she can also be reached at the Semaphore Cafe, number 9896, and the address of the Semaphore is 1639 Holgate, Portland, Oregon. [REDACTED] advised that when she was in Unit #7, she did notice some type of canvas bag in the room. She was asked if this was the size of a parachute, and stated she did not know, but in looking at a blanket on her sofa, advised that it was about that size.

This was observed and it was noted by the interviewing agent, SA THOMAS J. MANNING, that the blanket was the approximate size of a parachute. Further questioning of [REDACTED] failed to reveal any information concerning straps or other paraphernalia which a parachute would have. However, she pointed out that [REDACTED] also observed this "bag", or whatever it was, and probably observed it more closely than [REDACTED]

[REDACTED] also commented that some time after the hijacking, [REDACTED] did make a comment to her that the man in Unit #7 did resemble the hijacker's composite photograph. However, she did not call this to the attention of the FBI, for she felt there was nothing to the statement [REDACTED]
