On March 5, 1973, [REDACTED] Lynnwood, Washington, telephonically advised the Seattle Office she had information concerning subject matter she did not care to discuss over the phone.

On March 19, 1973, an anonymous letter was re- ceived at the Seattle Office enclosing a picture of a man resembling the artist's sketch of the hijacker. The person in the photo was identified as EVERETT TINGLE, Route 1, Box 129A, Granite Falls, Washington, telephone 691-6117.

The letter writer gave various logical reasons for believing TINGLE was the hijacker and requested to be contacted through the Personal Column of the Seattle Post- Intelligencer on the 13th of the month only.

---

On March 22, 1973, [REDACTED] was interviewed at her residence and it was established she had called the Seattle Office, March 5, 1973, and written the anonymous letter dated March 23, 1973.

[REDACTED] resides in a comfortable home [REDACTED]. She was very secretive at first and had no logical explanation concerning a phone call giving her name and then writing an anonymous letter. She seemed delighted with intrigue and several times declared her identity must remain anonymous.

[REDACTED] said she met EVERETT TINGLE at the Boeing Renton plant, where [REDACTED]. She claimed TINGLE was a World War II veteran and flyer, who knew how to parachute.

[redacted] said she [redacted] [redacted] she learned he was from Kansas [redacted] In June, 1971, TINGLE was a victim of a large employee layoff experienced by the Boeing Company. Although unemployed for a lengthy period, he was at the time attempting to develop his 40 acre ranch at Granite Falls. [redacted] said she and TINGLE [redacted] [redacted] Because of this apparent rejection, TINGLE started [redacted] [redacted]

She also claimed TINGLE had investments at Lake Havasue, Arizona, Hawaii, Antelope Valley and Palm Desert, California. She said he always carried a gun and seemed to be well fixed financially, in that he never used anything but a $20 bill when they went out. She said because of this unexplained money and other coincidences she believed TINGLE a suspect, although he had never admitted being connected with the hijack- ing or making any insinuating remarks in this regard.

---

On April 17, 1973, it was determined that EVERETT TINGLE, Route 1, Box 129A, Granite Falls, had applied for a gun permit at the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office on January 26, 1971, at which time he was finger- printed. He gave his name as EVERETT HENRY TINGLE, Route 1, Box 129A, Granite Falls, Washington, and a self description of a white male American, 185 lbs, 5'11", blue eyes and brown hair.

---

His only other police record was a speeding ticket on December 23, 1971, and a gun permit renewal on November 24, 1972.

---

Inquiry at the U. S. Post Office, Granite Falls revealed that TINGLE did reside at Route 1, Box 129A, however, had since moved. Property at his former address was a 40 acre plot sold to him by a WALTER STEINKE.

advised May 3, 1973, he sold EVERETT TINGLE 40 acres of his farm sometime in 1967. This property adjoined that of Mr. STEINKE and he got to know TINGLE rather well.

STEINKE said TINGLE told him he was from Witchita, Kansas, and had received a large inheritance from a farm owned by his parents. He transferred from Witchita to Everett, Washington with the Boeing Company, and at that time purchased the property from Mr. STEINKE.

STEINKE said TINGLE told him about investments he allegedly had made in Lake Havesue, Arizona, Hawaii and other places not recalled. He said he kidded TINGLE about this because he understood it was vacant land and it would be some time before it depreciated.

STEINKE added he cannot recall TINGLE being away from his property during the time of the hijacking. He added that TINGLE was a non-smoker and critical of those who indulged.

RON GILBERTSON, Cascade Savings and Loan, 195th and Highway 99, advised that TINGLE had purchased a time certicate on November 11, 1970, which is now valued at $5,856.64.

[guess: Shoreline] Savings and Loan, Everett, Washington advised that TINGLE established a passbook account with them on Janury 11, 1971, in the amount of $5,000 and on March 23, 1972, he purchased a $2,000 time certificate.

Inquiry reveals that TINGLE currently resides at 1422 East Union Street, Seattle, Washington, where he has an unlisted telephone. He apparently has been re- employed by the Boeing Company.

Summary of the above reflects that complainant went with subject until early 1973 and had planned to marry him. Suspect TINGLE instituted a lawsuit later dropped to regain presents he had given the complainant during their courtship.

He does not smoke and he is critical of those who do.

At a considerable time before the skyjacking, TINGLE purchased about $12,000 in property and established two accounts over $5,000 each.

He had discussed with several people the source of his funds and investments he had made, all of which oc- curred before the skyjacking.

He does carry a gun but has a permit for the weapon.

It is recommended that his name be removed as a suspect in this matter.
