RE: SUSPECT ROBERT HUGHES BROYDEN

On 7/18/73, Virginia State Police Investigator [REDACTED] advised SA [REDACTED] that an informant [REDACTED] whom he wished to keep anonymous, felt that ROBERT HUGHES BROYDEN, an Engineer employed somewhere in the Fincastle, Va. area, could possibly be the subject in captioned matter. [REDACTED] was interested in receiving a photograph of the artist's conception of D. D. COOPER, the subject in this case.

[REDACTED] continually stated [REDACTED] informant's fear of compromise was great and therefore did not want the Agent to interview BROYDEN. SA [REDACTED] made a telephone call to GEORGE BONEBREAK, Latent Fingerprint Section of the Identification Division, and requested that the fingerprints of BROYDEN, which were on file, be compared with those latents developed in instant matter.

On 7/19/73, BONEBREAK telephonically advised the Richmond Division that the fingerprints on file for BROYDEN were not identical to those of the latents obtained in this matter. This information was immediately furnished to Investigator [REDACTED]

[REDACTED] stated that his informant [REDACTED] visually observe BROYDEN. As a result of this observation, [REDACTED] stated that he was able to determine that there is absolutely no similarities in facial features between BROYDEN and the artist's conception of COOPER. [REDACTED] was also able to determine that BROYDEN is a non-smoker and possesses none of the characteristics contributed to COOPER by witnesses.

The identity of ROBERT HUGHES BROYDEN as furnished by [REDACTED] describes him as a white male, 5' 10", blue eyes, brown hair, born 10/1/39 in Ontario, Canada.'

Inasmuch as neither fingerprints nor physical characteristics of BROYDEN match those of COOPER, no further action is being taken by the Richmond Division in this matter.

ARMED AND DANGEROUS.
