A person reads every report. Corrections are made by hand, to the data — titles, dates, names, which pages belong together — never to the scans, and they can take a while to appear.

Special Agent in Charge, FBI U.S. Department of Justice Seattle, Washington 98104

Dear Sir:

Recently I read a brief news release in our local paper that indicated a skeleton had been found in the Seattle area which might have been "D.B. Cooper", the skyjacker-parachutist.

Could you tell me if this is correct? I have been working on a magazine article about "Cooper" and would like any up-to-date information that can be released. I am not writing a "how-to" article, since it is my opinion that he was killed in his attempt (that should discourage any would-be followers).

Your agent in Nashville gave me your address and suggested I write you for possible information on the status of the case. Whatever information can be released to me will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Very sincerely yours, [signature: Bud Sellick]

Bud Sellick
