On the same date, EDWARD A. LANE was interviewed at the Northside Plaza Food Town Store, formerly Red and White, Columbia, S. C. LANE furnished his residence as Rt. 3, Box 102, Chapin, S. C., and telephone number 345-3387. LANE stated that he had absolutely no knowledge regarding the hijacking of the Northwest Airlines flight #305 which took place on 11/24/71 between Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington. He denied that he had ever commented that he was D. B. COOPER, the person responsible for the hijacking. He furnished the following descriptive information:

LANE advised that prior to his first wife's death in 1973, and his parents death in Spokane, Washington, in 1967 and 1972, he and his wife visited Spokane, Washington, approximately once every 2 years. He said on these occasions they would visit with his parents and his brother. LANE said it is possible that he and his wife visited his parents and brother in Spokane, Washington, in 1971 but stated this would have been before November of 1971.

---

By observation, it was determined that EDWARD A. LANE does not resemble the composite photographs of the NORJACK UNSUB. LANE is stoop shouldered and has a pot belly. His hair is receded and does not at all look similar to the hair of the NORJACK UNSUB composite. LANE's complexion is also pale and could not be considered swarthy.

---

Leads to verify LANE's employment in Monroe and/or Elizabeth City, N. C., and/or contacts with subject's brother in Spokane, Washington, is being left to the discretion of the case agent.

[guess: ELIMINATE LANE]
