Re Los Angeles airtel to Seattle, 11/15/76, and Seattle airtel to Los Angeles, 1/3/77.

For the information of Seattle and Portland [redacted], the information previously provided by [redacted], as set forth in referenced Los Angeles airtel, 11/15/76, referred to an anonymous writer who allegedly associated with D. B. COOPER.

On 1/17/77, this matter was discussed with movie and television script writer DIRK WAYNE SUMMERS and ROBERT PRISNELL in the presence of [redacted]. During this discussion the previously unidentified writer was identified as JAMES BROWN who currently resides in Las Vegas. PRISNELL advised that BROWN had been recently interviewed by the FBI in Las Vegas, Nevada, concerning this matter. Both SUMMERS and PRISNELL indicated they have spent considerable time and money in researching information which originated from BROWN regarding BROWN's belief that the hijacker in this matter was one BRYANT COFFELT, DOB 2/20/16.

Inasmuch as all information concerning this matter originated from the Las Vegas Division and telephonic contact with Las Vegas has revealed that BROWN in fact was interviewed, information provided by PRISNELL and SUMMERS is not being set forth and any leads concerning the possibility that BRYANT may be identical to the subject of the matter, is left to the discretion of the office of origin. In view of the above it does not appear necessary that Portland contact the U.S. Attorney's office regarding information previously furnished by [redacted] as set forth re Seattle airtel.
