SUBJECT: NORJAK OO: Seattle

Re Atlanta airtel to Bureau, 5/13/77.

---

For information of Atlanta in May, 1976, the Las Vegas Division was advised by an individual named [REDACTED] that [REDACTED] learned JAMES H. BROWN was making statements that he knew who D. B. COOPER was and that he, BROWN, had served time in prison with this individual a number of years ago. Since receipt of this information, investigation has been conducted by the Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Honolulu, Portland, Washington Field and Alexandria Offices to verify or disprove BROWN's information. By airtel dated 1/24/77, the Los Angeles Office set out numerous leads to establish the whereabouts of BROWN's suspect, JACK BRYANT COFFELT. The complete results of this investigation are not known to Las Vegas. The information contained in re airtel is essentially the same as that developed by officials conducting the prior investigation. BROWN has been interviewed by the Las Vegas Office and has confirmed this information. It is pointed out that BROWN has a financial interest in promoting his story as he is trying to sell his manuscript for a movie or television film and also as a book.
