ReBAairtel to Bureau, 5/13/77.

Dr. FRANK CRESSWELL, 2029 Q Street, N.W., Washington, D. C. (WDC), was unavailable for interview on 6/1/77 and 6/8/77.

On 6/16/77, Dr. CRESSWELL was contacted at his office at 2029 Q Street, N.W., WDC. At this time, Dr. CRESSWELL recalled JACK BRYANT COFFELT as a former patient of his. Dr. CRESSWELL stated COFFELT was suffering from acute alcoholism, and his treatment of him involved frequent, short-term detoxification confinement. These confinements would usually extend for five to seven days. He did not believe this treatment of COFFELT involved stays at the Melwood Farm in Olney, Maryland.

Dr. CRESSWELL was unable to recall the specific time period when he was treating COFFELT but estimated it stretched over ten years. He further advised the dates of his treatments of COFFELT were recorded in COFFELT's medical records; however, these records were not readily available inasmuch as they were stored at another clinic in WDC. He identified this other clinic as the MarSalle located at 2131 O Street, N.W., WDC. Furthermore, Dr. CRESSWELL acknowledged he would initiate an inquiry for these records but estimated it would take a few days before COFFELT's records could be recovered.

Additionally, Dr. CRESSWELL recalled COFFELT possessed a sociopathic personality, and in his opinion, was certainly capable of accomplishing such a stunt as in this case. However, according to Dr. CRESSWELL, COFFELT could only have accomplished this stunt in his earlier years (25-30 years of age) because his physical condition had deteriorated substantially in his later years. Dr. CRESSWELL added he did not remember any atrophy in COFFELT's lower extremities and was certain COFFELT did not walk with a limp during his association with him. Also, Dr. CRESSWELL remembered that COFFELT experienced a "rough life" and consequently he looked much older than his actual age.
