Did D.B. Help To Kill King?

PORTLAND, Ore. — (UPI) — Was history's first and only successful aerial hijacker, D. B. Cooper, involved in the assassination of Martin Luther King? The Oregon Journal reported that yesterday CBS Television is looking into the possibility. The Journal said, 'A spokesperson for the network confirmed Monday that a preliminary investigation into a possible story for the Mike Wallace segment of 60 Minutes show is under way, but it has not proceeded far enough for scheudling."

Cooper disappeared after hijacking a Northwest Oreint Airlines plane Thanksgiving Eve in 1971 on a flight from Portland to Seattle, where he picked up $200,000 in ransom, then parachuted into oblivion.

The Portland office of the FBI, which still is investigating the Cooper heist, said it doubted a link with Cooper and the King assassination. The FBI also has expressed doubts Cooper survived his jump and may be alive today.
