TO: DIRECTOR, FBI (164-2111) FROM: SAC, LOS ANGELES (164-497) (3) (RUC) SUBJECT: NORJAK OO: Seattle

Sub-Reference: JAMES BRYANT COFFELT, aka [redacted] /DIRK WAYNE SUMMERS; JAMES H. BROWN; [redacted]

---

The following information is set forth for the information of the Bureau and receiving offices in the event Dirk Wayne Summers should contact Seattle or Portland in the future:

On 5/22/80, Investigator [redacted] Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, telephone number 974-3685, telephonically contacted SA Joseph C. Alston. [redacted] stated that during the evening hours of 2/11/80, the residence of Dirk Wayne Summers, 3921 Deervale Drive, Encino, California, was set on fire. In connection with the fire on 2/11/80, arson investigators found gasoline cans in the residence and evidence that gasoline had been poured on the carpets throughout the residence. Because the house was tightly closed it only partially burned. A security guard was retained by Summers to protect the residence. The following night the residence burned again and the security guard, who was chosen at random, admitted to setting the fire. He denied being initially involved. [redacted]
