A person reads every report. Corrections are made by hand, to the data — titles, dates, names, which pages belong together — never to the scans, and they can take a while to appear.

RE WASHINGTON FIELD AIRTEL TO BUREAU DECEMBER TWENTYEIGHT SEVENTYONE.

IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE TYPEWRITING ON THE LETTER SIGNED [REDACTED] ADDRESSED TO THE AIR LINE PILOTS ASSOCIATION, WASHINGTON, D. C., HAS THE SAME STYLE OF TYPEWRITING AS THAT ON THE [REDACTED] TYPEWRITTEN LEETTERS RECEIVED IN THIS CASE.

THE TYPEWRITING ON THE LETTER SIGNED [REDACTED] COULD NOT BE ADEQUATELY COMPARED WITH THE [REDACTED] LETTERS SINCE THE [REDACTED] LETTERS ARE CARBON COPIES AND THE ENVELOPES ACCOMPANYING THE [REDACTED] LETTERS CONTAIN ONLY A VERY LIMITED AMOUNT OF TYPEWRITING. THE SIGNATURE OF [REDACTED] COULD NOT BE ADEQUATELY COMPARED WITH THE QUESTIONED HANDWRITING ON ANY OF THE OTHER LETTERS IN THIS CASE, END PAGE ONE

DUE TO A LACK OF COMPARABLE WRITING.

THE PRESENCE OF THE SAME STYLE OF TYPEWRITING AND CERTAIN LIMITED SIMILAR CHARACTERISTICS INDICATE THE POSSIBILITY THAT THE TYPEWRITER USED TO PREPARE THE LETTER SIGNED [REDACTED] WAS USED TO PREPARE THE TYPEWRITING ON THE [REDACTED] LETTERS.

SINCE THE MAJORITY OF THE QUESTIONED TYPEWRITING ON THE [REDACTED] LETTERS CONSISTS OF CARBON COPY IMPRESSIONS, FUTURE EXAMINATION MAY NOT RESULT IN AN IDENTIFICATION OF THE QUESTIONED WRITING.

LABORATORY REPORT FOLLOWS.

WASHINGTON FIELD ADVISED BY MAIL.
