Memorandum

TO : SAC, SEATTLE (164-81) (P) DATE: 2/4/72

FROM : SPC [redacted] SUB - M

SUBJECT: NORJAK

---

On 2/4/72, SPC [redacted] advised writer that he had heard from [redacted] (LNU) that a bill taken in this matter had been located at the Seattle-First National Bank, Vancouver, Wash., branch. [redacted] had heard this from [redacted].

---

SA CHARLES FARRELL did not know anything about the matter and talked directly with [redacted] himself. [redacted] stated th[a/e]he had just talked to the lady and she stated she had just heard the tail end of a conversation dealing with what appeared to be a $20 bill in "evidence" wrapping and assumed this was part of the NORJAK money. [redacted] gave this woman's name as [redacted], Vancouver, Wash., phone [redacted].

---

After being advised of the situation by SA FARRELL, SA THOMAS MANNING called [redacted] at the number given. She advised that the bill described above had been brought in by a Secret Service Agent. The bill was counterfeit and the agent was apparently doing routine background investigation. He asked many of the tellers questions pertaining to who might have passed the bill. This took place on Thursday, 2/3/72. That afternoon [redacted] went to lunch with [redacted] and in the course of the conversation, [redacted] told her about this bill. At this point, one of the two men- tioned something about the possibility of it being one of the bills taken in the hijacking. When [redacted] in Vancouver, she told [redacted] (LNU) who is [redacted] about the bill and it seems this is where the counterfeit bill turned into one of the hijacked bills.

---

ASAC's Portland and Seattle are cognizant of this matter.
