RE: UNSUB; "SEATTLE FLAG" DATED 5/10/72

Re Seattle teletype to Bureau 5/1/72; Seattle teletype to Alexandria and WFO dated 5/2/72 and WFO teletype dated 5/3/72 to the Bureau and Seattle.

Enclosed for the FBI Laboratory is one reel of microfilm which was prepared in connection with the $200,000 ransom money which eventually was paid to the hijacker in captioned case.

The above referenced Seattle teletype to Alexandria advised that a copy of the "SEATTLE FLAG" publication dated 5/10/72, was being sent to Alexandria and then to the Bureau via WFO. It is noted that on Page 2 of the "SEATTLE FLAG" there appears a reproduction of a $20 bill which allegedly bears serial number L 51279635 A, which is a serial number of one of the ransom bills.

REQUEST OF BUREAU

1. Compare the $20 bill appearing on the microfilm with the reproduction in the "SEATTLE FLAG" to determine whether or not it is authentic and thereafter advise Seattle.

The bill itself has been located on the microfilm and has been marked with a small piece of paper on the film itself. The approximate location of that bill on the film is approximately at the arrow which has been Scotch taped to the outside of the reel.

2. In connection with the examination conducted by the Laboratory 4/28/72, to determine the authenticity of three $20 bills, the Seattle Office marked the location of those bills on the film with a small piece of adhesive paper provided by the Federal Reserve Bank, whose machine was used to review the film. It is now noted that these pieces of paper (3), are difficult to remove and some of the adhesive remains when the paper is taken off.

The Bureau is therefore requested, while the film is at the Laboratory, to endeavor to remove these three markers from the film. If it is felt necessary that the locations of those bills should be made on the film, the Laboratory might place a marker on the left side of the film where it does not cover the bill.

A sample of the adhesive paper is being furnished with the film so that the Laboratory might know the type of adhesive on this paper.
