FROM : SPC [redacted]

SUBJECT: NORJAK

---

At 2:03 AM I received a telephone call from communications officer [redacted] of the Belview State Patrol Office. He stated that he had received a telephone call from the Washington State Patrol office in Chehalis, Washington, concerning the D.B. Cooper [guess: Hijacking]. [redacted] was informed that [redacted] Washington, (phone) [redacted] who is [redacted] at Auburn, Washington, had been hunting the afternoon of 10/14/72, and felt he had some information concerning D.B. Cooper. [redacted] stated that [redacted] was presently working at the traffic center and could be reached there for further questioning. I than phoned [redacted] at which time he gave me the following information:

---

[redacted] stated he and a companion had gone deer hunting in the early morning of 10/14/72. He had driven his car up the [redacted] to the summit just passed the boundry marker for Mt. Rainier National Park. After parking his car at about 7:30 AM, [redacted] notice a 63 Ford Galaxy, (lic. Unk), maroon in color, in beat-up condition with a draging muffler, pulled up and parked across the highway from him. [redacted] stated a man got out of the car whom he believes might be the subject D.B. COOPER. [redacted] stated the subject was about 5'10"-5'11", middle aged, approximately 170 lbs., with thin graying hair around the temples. He was wearing [redacted]

slung over his shoulder and [redacted] with him. [redacted] asked him what he was hunting for and the subject replied in a weak nervous voice that he was after deer and grouse. [redacted] than proceeded through the mountains to the position where he normally hunts deer. From there [redacted] saw the subject with [redacted] about 20 minutes behind he and his companion.

[REDACTED] said the subject didn't seem to be hunting at all but was on the east side of Dewey Lake headed at a hurried pace, due south towards the Cascade Wilderness Trail, disappearing from view at about 8:10 AM.

---

[REDACTED] stated he had remembered hearing through the press that D.B. Cooper might have burried the money and would try to recover it at a later date. He felt that the subject was going in the general direction which he, [REDACTED] understood COOPER had landed. [REDACTED] said he had seen the FBI drawing of COOPER several months ago, but couldn't be sure if the man he saw was COOPER or not. Upon returning to his car, [REDACTED] said he didn't notice the subject's car due to several skiers cars parked near by.

---

[REDACTED] said he was leaving this morning at 7:30AM, to go bird hunting East of the Mountains but would be available for further questioning from Tuesday evening on after 10:00 PM.
