UNKNOWN SUBJECT; Also Known As Dan Cooper, D. B. Cooper

---

On November 24, 1971, unknown subject boarded United Airlines Flight 305 scheduled to fly from Portland, Oregon, to Seattle, Washington, using the name of Dan Cooper. Unknown subject displayed to a stewardess aboard the flight a black attache case which was said to contain a bomb. Unknown subject, the hijacker, requested $200,000.00 and two parachutes.

At the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, hijacker was provided with four parachutes and $200,000.00 in $20.00 bills and a canvas bank bag.

The plane departed the Seattle-Tacoma Inter- national Airport with three crew members in the cabin and a stewardess in the rear of the plane with the hijacker. Within minutes after takeoff at 7:36 p.m., the hijacker had the stewardess show him how to lower the steps and he then ordered her to go to the first class section which she did. At 8:05 p.m., the captain was in touch with the hijacker by the intercom. This was the last communication he had with the hijacker. Just prior to this communication, the captain had a signal indicating that the stairs had been lowered. At 8:12 p.m., the captain experienced "oscillation" in the plane and thought perhaps the hijacker had departed the plane.

When the plane arrived at Reno, Nevada, the hijacker was gone and two of the parachutes were still in the plane. The attache case was also not in the plane and has not been found. The hijacker has not been located.

An artist's conception of the hijacker was prepared.

On February 12, 1973, [REDACTED] [REDACTED] Longview, Washington, advised that while visiting on the Island of Kauai, Hawaii, on February 6, 1973, he had a conversation with an individual who introduced himself as [REDACTED] and said he was from British Columbia. This individual was described by [REDACTED] as being a Caucasian male, early 40's, 5'10½", 170-180 pounds, ruddy complexion, rounded chin, sideburns to about the middle of his ears, with slight graying hair, who commented that he and his partner had purchased [REDACTED] on the Island of Kauai [REDACTED]

[REDACTED] viewed an artist's conception of unknown subject and commented that although there was some slight resemblance between [REDACTED] and the hijacker, [REDACTED] was a much older man.

There is being enclosed one copy of an artist's conception of unknown subject.
