Re memo of SA THOMAS J. MANNING 6/18/75

Updating information set forth on referenced memorandum. At this time there is nothing other than conjecture that [REDACTED] b6 has knowledge of the location of a sizable amount of money. b7C

On 6/20/75 [REDACTED] advised that [REDACTED] was to visit him [REDACTED] b6 between 11:00AM and 3:00PM on this date. Due to this visit it was b7C deemed advisable for writer to contact [REDACTED] again witnossibility existing that [REDACTED] would prevail [REDACTED] to tell the truth since from personal observation by [REDACTED] and the writer both were of the opinion that [REDACTED] had knowledge which he was not imparting.

Writer on contact with [REDACTED] 6/20/75 determined that [REDACTED] b6 [REDACTED] had visited him and in presence of [REDACTED] b7C [REDACTED] insisted that [REDACTED] tell the full story. He insisted that he did not find the four 20 dollar bills he had furnished serial numbers on.

Previous contact with [REDACTED] on 6/19/75 resulted in his stating b6 that someone else [REDACTED] had approached him and furnished b7C the serial numbers previously set forth in referenced memo. He insisted that he did not find the bills, that someone else [REDACTED] [REDACTED] whose name he did not wish to divulge had found them in a 50' square at an unknown location in the woods. He spoke with this man and this individual was upset about having the money in his possession [REDACTED] and that the money could possibly be traced by serial numbers. He stated tat he never saw the bills but they were described to him as new bills somewhat weather beaten, not folded or mutilated in any way. The bills were found within the past month. There was an indication from his conversation, according to [REDACTED] that the area was the Larch Mountain campground [REDACTED] within the past month. He stated there was no mention ever made of his having found the bills, a suitcase, or a sizable amount of money. 164-81- 6590

[REDACTED] telephonically contacted [REDACTED] and was spoken with by the writer. He denied [REDACTED] he had found the money, that there was a suitcase, that it had been found behind a log or there was a "considerable amount of money". It was determined through contact by SA [REDACTED] at Wenatchee on 6/19/75 and through the telephone call that the name [REDACTED] had come up when [REDACTED] if he had any friends at [REDACTED] and the name of [REDACTED] was given. He never saw the money and generally stuck with his original story. However he did state during this conversation "personally I feel there is more" but refused to give any other information. He was asked if he would speak with the individual [REDACTED] who he alleged had the bills, stated he would and if any other information was developed would notify the FBI. ---

[REDACTED] then decided to leave the campground and he would get out of the car down the road and attempt to observe the three Mexican men, two women and the Texas licensed cars. He did this and advised [REDACTED] of what he was doing and asked for assistance. At that time he heard one of the Mexican men running down the road and he left the area. He then notified the Clark County SO of his need for a deputy not knowing what the Mexicans were doing. At approximately 5:30 PM as the Texas licensed car came down the road the deputy and himself stopped the car, secured a consent to search and searched the car and found nothing except a few trees they had picked in the area. They admitted that they had been to visit [REDACTED] and then went up the campground road to look at the country side for they had never been in the area. They were released but their names and the license plate number was taken and is now [REDACTED]

---

[REDACTED] advised that [REDACTED] had observed [REDACTED] [REDACTED] with the five visitors and observed that he was obviously drawing a map. The Mexicans were asked about the map and stated that all [REDACTED] was doing was drawing their road out of [REDACTED] [REDACTED] advised that when he first came upon the Mexicans at the campground it was about 3:40 PM and visiting hours [REDACTED] [REDACTED] end at 3:00PM.

---

He also stated that [REDACTED] had put his name on a waiting list for a phone call for Saturday evening but after the five Mexicans did visit he never made the phone call.

---
