A person reads every report. Corrections are made by hand, to the data — titles, dates, names, which pages belong together — never to the scans, and they can take a while to appear.

For information of FBI Laboratory, referenced teletype reflects copies of same letter received by the "New York Times", "Seattle Times", and "Los Angeles Times". The letter bears typed name of "D. B. COOPER," the same name utilized by unsub in captioned matter.
The initials "CWH" and the date "12/14/71" on the lower right corners on the back of both the envelope and letter were placed there by WFC agent. The significance of the number "717171684*", appearing next to the copy count in the lower left corner on the face of the letter, remains unknown.
Efforts were made by WFO to preserve the letter and envelope for latent fingerprints. However, both were handled by an unknown number of individuals at "The Washington Post" prior to being obtained by WFO.

REQUEST OF THE BUREAU
The FBI Laboratory is requested to determine the style of type and make of typewriter utilized in typing the letter and envelope. The letter should also be compared with any copies of same furnished by other divisions.
The stamp on the envelope should be compared with the stamps on any other envelopes submitted by other divisions to determine if at one time they were part of the same sheet of stamps.
The Identification Division is requested to examine both the letter and envelope for the presence of any latent fingerprints of value.
It is also requested that the above enclosures be subjected to any other appropriate examinations which would aid in identifying the individual who wrote the letter.
