Tacoma, Wash. [REDACTED] 10 July 1972

Director Federal Bureau of Investigation Washington, D.C.

[I] want you to know d strongly support you and your organization on the [guess: efing] way you do your job. [I] have always admired the FBI because of the good image it has maintained and its dedicat[ion] to bringing federal lawbreakers to justice. You ha[ve] a great task filling the void left by the late Mr. Hoover. He was one of the few individuals so endowed with great leadership qualities who made FBI what it is today.

When an occasional high ranking american makes detrimental remarks about the FBI, it amazes me. [I] feel people make these remarks mostly to gain publicity by means of the news media, and [guess: at] the

some time gain support from splinter groups who don't respect any legal authority. I think they are jealous and very envious of the F.B.I. because of the efficiency, respect, and professionalism you have attained.

What really precipitated this letter to you are the recent air hi-jackings the F.B.I. is involved in. [REDACTED] F.B.I. office in Seattle, wash. under Mr. Milnes SAC on the D. B. Cooper case. [REDACTED] in the Seattle and Tacoma offices exemplified what I have mentioned above about the F.B.I. I know that air piracy activities take up much of your time and budget and I believe the sky jackers should be apprehended and sentenced early for their deeds. Mr. Gebhardt, SAC, San Francisco, did what should have been done in all events of air piracy. He kept that P.S.A. airplane on the ground. This is the way to keep sky jackings from getting out of hand. The policy of "catering to" or "giving in to" the demands

of the sky jackers must cease. Keep the air- craft on the ground and deal with the sky jackers the way Mr. Gebhardt did and these [guess: occurrences] will decrease.

Yours truly,

---

P.S. Checking closely on refusing any hand carried luggage aboard aircraft helps [guess: deter] sky jackings.
