Mr. Thomas J. Manning Federal Bureau of Investigation P. O. Box 429 Longview, Washington 98632

Dear Sir:

Insured: Northwest Airlines Hijacking 11/24/71

This furthers your June 15, 1976 telephone conversation with our [REDACTED] concerning the potential recovery of the funds, which we paid to the captioned insured as a result of the hijacking of one of its planes by an individual identi- fied as D. B. Cooper.

The Northwestern Airlines were apparently approached by [REDACTED] of Kirkland, Washington, who offered his services as [REDACTED] with the indication that, according to his information, the hijacker landed with the money in a lake, and that he, [REDACTED] would be able to locate the bag and possibly the body of the late D. B. Cooper and bring it to the surface.

The Northwestern Airlines contacted our attorney, who in turn advised us of the situation.

We then contacted [REDACTED] by phone and this is briefly what [REDACTED] told us:

He [REDACTED] [REDACTED] in Kirkland. He has [REDACTED] [REDACTED] and since he believes, on the basis of the information, which he was able to gather, that D. B. Cooper with the money landed in a lake in the Louis River Canyon, he would undertake the search for the money for a certain percen- tage of the redeemable bills.
