Federal Bureau of Investigation Portland, Oregon

Dear Sir:

I presume your office is involved in the search for the recent hijacker and the money involved.

I am enclosing two clippings from my copy of the Sunday Nov. 28 Salem Statesman. I notice a possibility of a relationship between the two events and am calling it to your attention at the risk of wasting your valuable time.

As I see it, the hijacker mentioned wanting to go to Mexico, and the ransom was paid in Mexico City. The amount the hijacker received was $200,000.00 and the ransom paid in Mexico was the same. It is reported as dollars rather than so many pesos equal to approx- imately so many dollars (or what ever the Mexican monetary denomination would be). The ransom was paid on Saturday about TWO days after the hijacking. And last but not least, note the last paragraph with regard to another kidnapping in Sept. 1971 of the Federal AVIATION Director who was exchanged for $240,000.00 ransom.

If you are interested in checking on this I will also tell you that [REDACTED] according to this article is [REDACTED] b6 [REDACTED]. With this in mind I would like to b7C mention that about [REDACTED] by the name of [REDACTED] [REDACTED] he might be able to help you obtain more information than normally allowed if [REDACTED]

Also, I wish you would arrange to have a map published showing the approximate route the plane took enroute from Seattle to Reno.

[REDACTED BLOCK - b6/b7C]

I would also like to say that I flew from Chicago to Tampa, Fla. on [REDACTED] in a Northwest Orient plane of the type I believe was used. We were allowed to board early and had free choice as to seats. I selected one on the right near the back of the wing but not too near the back of the plane. The stairwell door was open while the engines were running in order for the rear rest room to be serviced. I got real sick in a matter of minutes from the fumes that were sucked into the plane much like the tailgate window open in a station wagon if it doesn't have something to deflect the fumes. I just don't think he could have lasted very long in that plane with that door open if the same situation exists during flight that I and others on my flight experienced.

I hope this will be of some help to you.

Sincerely,

[REDACTED - b6/b7C]
