[REDACTED], Portland, tel. [REDACTED] called the office on 12-18-71 to tell of a man who had been fre- quenting [REDACTED] who resembled the sketch of the hijacker.
[REDACTED] said that this man first began coming into the tavern about two weeks ago, sometimes spent as much [REDACTED] and appeared to have considerable money.
[REDACTED] Finally, the man stopped coming in, and [REDACTED] had not seen him for several days until 12-18-71 when the man was observed going south on foot [REDACTED]
During the time the man visited [REDACTED], he always was alone and somehow left the impression that he might be [REDACTED], al- though he did not so state. [REDACTED] said he was certain that the man was not with [REDACTED].
[REDACTED] described the man as about [REDACTED], 5'9"-10", 165 pounds. He always dressed well and when seen on the street on 12-18-71 he was wearing a brown suede leather coat (or imitation) and carrying a black Dopp kit.
[REDACTED] also provided some information in addition to that supplied by [REDACTED]. She said that the man always seemed to have a lot of money to spend but was always careful not to let anyone see how much he had. He also was evasive as to employment. On one occasion, however, she had asked him directly what he did, and he said he was [REDACTED]. When she asked him to explain, he dropped the subject. Over the time he had visited [REDACTED], he had been somewhat of a pest. [REDACTED] He said he had money and he wanted to spend it [REDACTED] noted that she for- merly was [REDACTED] and she believed this man [guess: worth] looking in to.
[REDACTED] said he would call if the man came [REDACTED] again.
