SUBJECT: NORJACK b6 b7C

[REDACTED], Oregon, tel. no. [REDACTED] telephonically contacted the writer in regards possible information on the above captioned matter. He advised that on 12/8/72, while riding a trailbike in the hills west of Scappose, he had observed what appeared to be a white parachute in a remote canyon area. Due to the rugged terrain in the area, he was unable to get closer. On 12/10/72 [REDACTED] returned to the area with [REDACTED] this time equipped with field glasses. They were able to verify the object as being a parachute.

Case agent HIMMELSBACH was advised of the above infor- mation this date. He stated that in view of the hijacked plane's course, and the prevailing winds at the time, it would have been impossible for the Subject to have landed west of Scappose. HIMMELSBACH stated he would immediately notify the FAA and the Oregon State Board of Aeronautics in regards this information.

The writer subsequently contacted [REDACTED] and advised b6 him that the chute is not likely to have been involved in the b7C hijacking, but that other government agencies would be contacting him in regards this matter.
