On 2/6/74, [REDACTED], Valley News, 1121 Fairfield Street, Eugene, Oregon, furnished the following information:

On the afternoon of 2/5/74, captioned subject came to [REDACTED] office in Eugene stating that he had highly con- fidential information he wished to discuss. The subject then told [REDACTED] that he knows the true identity of D. B. COOPER, who is responsible for hijacking an airplane during November of 1971. He told [REDACTED] he has been aware of COOPER's true identity for two years; however, has been afraid to disclose this information because he fears for his life. The subject then produced from his wallet a snapshot of a male individual and also produced a composite drawing of D. B. COOPER. He placed these in front of [REDACTED] [REDACTED] noted a strong similarity between the man depicted in the photograph and the composite drawing of COOPER. [REDACTED] inquired as to the true identity of COOPER and the subject stated he could not disclose the information at this time; however, would be in contact with [REDACTED] within a day or two. He suggested that [REDACTED] contact him at Albany telephone number 926-2475. The subject told [REDACTED] that he had been the owner of Propst Flying Service in Albany and stated he became aware of COOPER's identity because of his connection with aviation.

that he has known the true identity of D. B. COOPER for over two years. He further stated that he knows where the money from the hijacking is buried and could take SA [REDACTED] to the location where COOPER disposed of a parachute. Upon further inquiry, subject stated that there are several people involved in the hijacking, including [REDACTED] He proceeded to state that the hijacking was [masterminded] by [REDACTED] in Salem, Oregon, [REDACTED] in Portland, Oregon, and [REDACTED] in Seattle, Washington. These [REDACTED] along with the individual who used the name D. B. COOPER, engineered the hijacking for several months before the in- cident actually occurred. He then stated he has been followed by FBI Agents for at least 1-1/2 years and stated they have ransacked his house in Albany, Oregon, on several occasions looking for his "files" which he has maintained on the hijacking and on one occasion they followed him all the way to Boston, Massachusetts, and back to Oregon. He also stated the Secret Service has been watching him during this period of time, as well as other federal law enforce- ment agencies. He stated [REDACTED] the "Portland mob" and that the "Portland mob" is also involved in the hijacking. When asked to identify members of the "Portland mob," subject stated that SA [REDACTED] is just as familiar with the members of the "Portland mob" as he is and there is no need for him to elaborate on the identity of these individuals. He claimed that the "Portland mob" and the FBI has made three attempts on his life in recent years. Part of the reasons for these attacks is because he learned a number of years ago that former President LYNDON JOHNSON was a queer. Subject stated that he is responsible for LYNDON JOHNSON deciding not to run for President in 1968. When asked how he is responsible for this, he stated that he wrote a detailed letter concerning his findings to the Mooney Aircraft Company. When asked how this prevented Mr. JOHNSON for running for President, he shouted in a loud voice, "If you can't see that, you're not much of an in- vestigator." The subject then began to breathe heavily and talk excitedly. He said that he carries a gun at all times and keeps loaded weapons in his automobile and his residence. He stated if the people who are following him get much closer "there will be some lead flying." Subject continued to ramble on, talking in an incoherent manner. He repeatedly stated that he will shoot anybody who attempts to follow him.

Subject stated he is a candidate for governor in the State of Oregon and has formerly filed for this position. He stated he has paid political advertisements on numerous radio stations in the state concerning his candidacy [REDACTED] advised that subject has in fact filed as a candidate for governor and has run numerous political advertisements during the past week on various radio stations, including KPNW radio in Eugene). Subject refused to display the photograph of the male individual he had shown to [REDACTED] on 2/5/74, who allegedly resembled the composite drawing of COOPER. He in- sisted he is currently conducting his own investigation con- cerning the hijacking and does not wish to relay any further information concerning this matter at the present time. He assured the interviewing agent, however, that he would not let COOPER get away.
