Residence

Presently owns a pretentious home, with large grassy lawn.

Prior home had a $300 a month mortgage.

Has a vacation place.

Present home is in a suburban area. He lives next door to an Episcopalian minister.

"Well, this man was my next door neighbor and from time to time he'd come over and we'd have some coffee. And one tir we got onto suburbia -- what he would do some Sunday if a large group from Skid Row showed up with bedraggled clothes, unwashed and reeking of last night's drink, how he would react to this. I asked him why he didn't go out and solicit this type of person. Didn't they need saving as much as his well-to-do parishioners? And he couldn't answer that very well, What answer could he give? I said good naturedly that he was a 14-carat phony. That he was just a rising young executive who didn't have any more idea of the true meaning of religion, even though he was an ordained minister, than I did. As far as I am concerned, the people working down in the mission districts so that these poor dregs of humanity can get something to eat and get through another day-- perhaps they have the truer meaning of religion.
