[REDACTED] advised that he resides at [REDACTED], California, [REDACTED] and can be contacted any time through [REDACTED] furnished the following information:
He advised that he is familiar with an individual by the name of CHARLES EVERETT DEVINE, who resides at 219 South Imperial Avenue, Brawley, California, and whom [REDACTED] believes could possibly be identical with the D. B. COOPER involved in above-captioned skyjacking.
[REDACTED] advised that he has known DEVINE for approximately [REDACTED] and first became acquainted with him in 1962, through [REDACTED] in and around the [REDACTED]. He advised that he has not had any relationship whatsoever with DEVINE for the past [REDACTED] but prior to that time he engaged in extensive discussions with DEVINE wherein DEVINE would mention numerous plans he would devise for obtaining money illegally. Among these plans were the use of explosives in bank robberies, and also the use of an airplane in order to effect an escape from a bank robbery. [REDACTED] could not recall details of any plans but did state that all of the plans mentioned by DEVINE were ingenious and well thought out. DEVINE told [REDACTED] that he would change his name if he ever carried out any such plan and would change it around so that his initials would be similar but last name different.
[REDACTED] further advised that subsequent to the above captioned skyjacking, and approximately one month after it, he drove by DEVINE's residence in Brawley, California, and noticed that the house appeared unoccupied, and he felt it had been unoccupied for some time. [REDACTED] based this on the fact that the yard was filled with leaves and did not appear to have been kept up. According to [REDACTED] this struck him as odd due to the fact that DEVINE is a very meticulous and orderly person and had he been home would not have let his front yard deteriorate to that condition.
During one of their conversations [REDACTED] was advised by DEVINE that he had received paratroop training in the Army shortly after World War II and that he deserted or went AWOL from the Army. According to [REDACTED] DEVINE is currently on some type of relief assistance from Imperial County and to the best of his knowledge does not work. During their conversations regarding DEVINE's schemes to obtain money, DEVINE mentioned that should he ever be able to pull off a large haul, he would not flash around or use any of the money for a very lengthy period.
