RE: New Suspect WALTER CHARLES SCHERAR, aka William Barnes

---

Investigation at Los Angeles reveals captioned individual should be considered a possible suspect. RALPH WHITE, 1612 North Western Avenue, Hollywood, California, who has parachuted in the Los Angeles area since about 1960, has advised that the artist's conception appears similar to WALTER C. SCHERAR, whom he described as a master parachute rigger who used to reside in Lancaster, California. He stated SCHERAR was a daredevil and was from the Seattle, Washington area. He last heard of SCHERAR in 1965, and at that time understood he was involved in an alimony problem with his wife, name unknown, in Seattle. He was arrested by Sheriff's Deputies in Lancaster and extradited to Seattle.

---

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office (LASO), and Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) records reveal SCHERAR, FBI Number 493 099 2, was arrested for suspicion of robbery by the LAPD in 1950 and was arrested as a fugitive from Washington on 2/15/63. These records indicate he was extradited to Washington State on 2/20/63.

---

LAPD records indicate on 7/10/47, SCHERAR enlisted in the military and was fingerprinted at Lowry Field, Denver, Colorado. In January 1950, he was arrested with three other suspects and charged with suspicion of robbery and kidnaping. These charges were dismissed for lack of evidence.

Los Angeles case captioned [illegible], reveals WALTER C. SCHERAR, 730 H 12th Street, Lancaster, California, was jump master at Parasportcenter in May 1963. Sub 6/6 SCHERAR was named by Special Agent of the OSI, Edwards Air Force Base, California, as a person who arranged for theft of [illegible]
