RE: JOHN SCHAFF, SUB 883
For the information of the Anchorage Division, [redacted] has been suggested as a suspect in this matter by [redacted] (protect) [redacted] Washington. [redacted] stated [redacted] on the Alaska Pipeline operating out of Valdez, Alaska. [redacted] possesses a photograph of [redacted] who according to [redacted] resembles the artist's composite of UNSUB in this matter. [redacted] was sitting at a bar in Valdez having a large number of drinks and was heard mumbling to himself something to the effect that the Statute of Limitations would be over in a few weeks. This was just before the original statute was to expire in November, 1976. Those nearby started to question him about his remarks and he immediately changed the subject.
[redacted] advised that [redacted] worked for the Boeing Aircraft Corporation and although he had no information on [redacted] present age, height, or possibly military background, he did state that [redacted] is currently [redacted] in Valdez, Alaska. [redacted] has requested that [redacted] not be contacted at this time on this matter because in his remarks [redacted] said he was reluctant to provide [redacted] name to authorities as a possible suspect.
