[redacted], Seattle Post-Intelligencer newspaper, advised the writer that he received a long distance call from BILL ABERNATHY (PHONETIC) of Russellville, Arkansas who wanted to know if the Seattle P-I was still offering a $5,000 reward for D. B. COOPER. He also advised he had been Sheriff in Russellville for eight years and when [redacted] advised him the P-I no longer offered the reward, he wanted to know if Northwest Airlines was offering a reward. [redacted] said he did not know and ABERNATHY refused to discuss what information he had. [redacted] stated ABERNATHY was obviously calling long distance and had a Southern accent. [redacted] was assured by SA [redacted] that should this lead prove productive that he would be the first media person contacted by the FBI.
