MOBILE TELEPHONE
---
Information from Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Company, Longview, Washington.
In event a trailer is used as a base of operations for the search operation a completely mobile telephone installation could be made in the trailer on one week of notice to the phone company (time element could be lowered to possibly three or four days) with the trailer to be left at the mobile shop, 906 New York Avenue, Longview for the better part of one day for the installation.
Mechanically we would need a 12 volt car battery in good or new operating condition as a source of power.
The mobile unit would have one or more channels depending upon the area we worked in in order to insure that we could get to a mobile operator to place our call to any number.
Cost - one channel $32 per month and for each additional channel $3 per month. Possibility of having to use 3 or 4 channels exists in order to insure ability to reach a mobile operator at some location such as Longview, Portland or Hood River, Oregon.
[illegible name] advised using the car battery - 12 volt - in good condition would give us indefinite service since the drain on the battery is not great if the phone is not actually in use.
Cost of installation of the unit is $50
Installation of such a unit would not involve us in line hookups and we could be completely mobile.
Procedure on calls from any location to the mobile unit would be - dial long distance - ask for mobile operator - give her number of the mobile unit (each channel used would have a different mobile number) - she would then select the channel she could reach and the call would be made.
Security - same security as on normal telephone line.
