UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT Memorandum BUREAU OF CUSTOMS

DATE: February 22, 1972 FILE:

TO : FILE

FROM : [REDACTED] TASOS Staff

SUBJECT: Identification Procedure

---

On February 12, 1972 at approximately 1100 hours, I was at the [REDACTED] when an employee, [REDACTED] mentioned that she had read a recent article concerning the North West Orient hijacking on November 24, 1971. [REDACTED] stated that she remembered a [REDACTED] Customs Security Officer in [REDACTED] which started on [REDACTED] and ended [REDACTED].

CSO [REDACTED] and a friend, CSO [REDACTED] also from [REDACTED] were talking to her about the recent hijackings and [REDACTED] told her he was a pilot. In the conversation that followed, [REDACTED] stated to her and [REDACTED] that the way to hijack a plane and escape would be to bail out using a parachute. He also stated that he could not wait to get back to the wilds of Oregon. I asked [REDACTED] if she had mentioned this to anyone else and she stated that she had talked to a Colonel several weeks before. I told [REDACTED] not to devulge any additional information concerning the in- cident.

---

After leaving the cleaners, I proceeded to our office, [REDACTED] where I looked up the two individuals mentioned. CSO [REDACTED] post of duty was Portland, Oregon and CSO [REDACTED] post of duty was New York. On Monday, [REDACTED] I mentioned the above conversation I had with [REDACTED] to my supervisor, Special Agent [REDACTED] Air Security Coordinator.
