Dear Sir:
This letter is with regards to the episode of a Dan Cooper who hijacked an airplane and extorted $200,000.00 in 1971. In 1971 I had a [REDACTED] working for me by the name of [REDACTED] [REDACTED] In July of 1971 he turned in his equipment and quit his job. At the time he quit he stated and I quote... [REDACTED]
Whenever I read that the hijacking took place I immediately thought of [REDACTED] He was in his late twenties, athletic, and not quite as thin as the composits make him to be. In any event [REDACTED] was an ex-serviceman and I beleive had Parachute experience. He was very intelligent and crafty enough to have pulled off a job like that. He was crafty enough to have used his own name...knowing full well that the authorities would never think that a criminal would use his own name.
He's the type that would fly over the area several times and knowing full well the terrain. I don't know if he is your man...but he is worth investigating.
When he worked for me he lived in Metropolis, Illinois. .He not longer resides there. The only thing I remember about him was that [REDACTED] in Metropolis. I always kept pictures of all my [REDACTED] but two years ago I cleaned out my files and his files were thrown in the trash. One thing for sure...if [REDACTED] left home in August or September of 1971 and [REDACTED] never heard from him again....he surely would be in the bottom of the lake with all the money.
All these years...every time I would see the T V program rel- ating to Dan (D.B.) Cooper I would intend to write you about [REDACTED].but never did until now. He may be your man and yet he· may not be. It is worth your looking into.
