FBI Admits Investigation Of HB Man As Hijacker

SANTA ANA -- The FBI confirmed Thursday it is looking into a bank investigator's allegation that a Huntington Beach businessman Jack Cannon is [guess: the] airline hijacker D.B. Cooper. Cannon filed a $500,000 slander suit Wednesday, claiming that a Bank of America investigator told FBI agents that he had [guess: reason] [guess: to] believe the businessman, using the name D.B. Cooper, hijacked a jet liner over Washington state in 1971 and parachuted into the wilds with $200,000 ransom money. Cooper never has been found.

In his Superior Court suit against the bank, Cannon said the statements and the resulting investigation have harmed his reputation and his business.

Cannon claimed in his suit that the bank investigator, Kay Reeves, based his statements to the FBI on information from Cannon's ex-girlfriend.
