SAC J. E. MILNES

UNSUB; Northwest Airlines Flight #305 Portland to Seattle 11/24/71 CAA - HIJACKING; EXTORTION

OO: Seattle

---

A [REDACTED] of Fort Lewis, telephone [REDACTED] called and advised that the Sixth Army Headquarters in San Francisco wanted to know why the helicopters were being relieved. Itold him that the Army in Washington had informed us the cost would be approximately $250 per hour per unit, and that I thought the charge was excessive and that we could get the same service for either nothing or substantially less, and we were relieving them for that purpose. He wanted to know when they departed Woodland and when they expected to arrive at Fort Lewis. I told him I would let him know.

At 12:05 p.m., I called [REDACTED] in [REDACTED] office. I advised him that the helicopters had been relieved between 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. The pilots were eating lunch. They were weathered in and weather permitting they will return to Fort Lewis after lunch.
