U.S. HIJACKER GETS PARACHUTES, $50,000

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — A Hughes Airwest jetliner was hijacked from McCarran International Airport here to- day by a man who said he had a bomb.

The man was given $50,000, two parachutes and a crash helmet by officials as the DC- 9 waited on the ground. He then allowed the 56 passen- gers to leave. The crew re- mained aboard and the plane took off at 12:36 p.m. Its destination was not known.

Airline officials said the plane was preparing to take off for Reno when the hijacker confronted a stewardess with his demands and warned he was carrying dynamite.

They said the pilot later confirmed the man appeared to have five sticks of dyna- mite in a bag.
