Enclosed for the Bureau is an envelope and a one- page letter directed to the Sheriff, Criminal Dept. Ct. house, The Dalles, Oregon 97058, postmarked The Dalles, Oregon 97058, March 23, 1972, PM. The letter reads as follows:
"YOU WILL NEVER FIND ME GIVE UP D B COOPER"
On 3/24/72 Chief Deputy[REDACTED], Wasco County Sheriff's Office (WCSO), The Dalles, Oregon, advised his department received the enclosed letter on the same date. [REDACTED] advised he normally opens all the mail and did open this particular letter. He advised that to his knowledge he was the only individual at the WCSO who knew the contents of the letter. He further advised no press media is aware or has been informed of the receipt of the letter. He ad- vised this information would not be furnished to any press media.
On 3/27/72 referenced letter was received by the FBI and investigation conducted at The Dalles, Oregon, U. S. Postal Service, failed to show where in The Dalles the letter was deposited or the approximate PM time the letter could have been deposited.
