They declined also, and as the weather worsened, he decided [REDACTED] and go searching for the man, even though the weather was worsening.
[REDACTED] continued that shortly after 8:00 p.m., he and a deputy sheriff [REDACTED] [REDACTED], searching for the elderly man. They found him after several hours clinging to his overturned boat, and nearly dead of hypothermia. They rescued the man, and he has since recovered fully.
[REDACTED] stated that night was the stormiest in his experience, and the winds were so high, they turned Lake Merwin into giant waves [REDACTED], and [REDACTED]. He said that at the same time the clouds were so close to the water, that there was a dense fog and he was unable to see more than a few feet ahead of [REDACTED].
[REDACTED] related that he was contacted by two FBI Agents shortly after the hijacking, and related the above experience to them. He said he could not recall having heard an airplane fly over at any time during the storm.
