ASAC PAUL R. BIBLER
UNKNOWN SUBJECT; NORTHWEST AIRLINES FLIGHT #305, 11/24/71 CAA - EXTORTION
---
[REDACTED] Sea-Tac, called at approximately 3:22 PM, 11/24/71. He said that a man was on Flight #305, a Boeing 727, from Portland to Seattle; that he had advised the pilot that he had a bomb in a brief case and was requesting $200,000 and two parachutes by 5:00 PM. The plane was due in Seattle at 3:27 PM and the UNSUB had told the pilot that no one was to meet the aircraft; no one was to approach the airplane; there were to be no FBI Agents and that he would advise them later what his flight plans were.
---
I called the Bureau and furnished this information to ROBERT PETERSON on duty in Division 6. I told the Bureau I would call them back as soon as the plane was on the ground. At approximately 10 minutes later, I was advised by Northwest that the plane was on the ground.
---
I called the Bureau again and told them the plane was not going to land immediately, but that the pilot was going to circle the field until the hijacker made up his mind just what he wanted done. The Bureau requested that we set up an open line with them and with the SAC when he arrived at the airport and this was done. At the request of HANK SHUTZ of the Bureau, I had agents telephone all of the Western FBI offices and have them have personnel standby to take care of this situation if their office was involved. A list of those offices are as follows:
AQ, BT, SU, SD, LA, SC, SF, PX, LV, PD, DN, and [REDACTED]
---
The passenger list contained the name of DAN COOPER as one of those aboard. During the course of the evening the Bureau came up with an identification record for [REDACTED] FRT[REDACTED] who was born in [REDACTED] Washington, who had an arrest for [REDACTED] on [REDACTED] in [REDACTED] Washington. SHUTZ requested that a

check be made on this individual for purpose of identifying him with the hijacker. Subsequently I was advised by ASAC RUHL at Portland, that he had definitely eliminated this person, since he had had a policeman at [REDACTED] Oregon, go and personally talk to this man, [REDACTED] FBI # [REDACTED] and he is definitely not on the plane but is in [REDACTED] Oregon. I advised SHUTZ of this.
---
At the suggestion of the Bureau I called Butte and asked them to check on [REDACTED] to see if he had [REDACTED] Butte called back and advised this was negative and subsequently I was advised by [REDACTED] at the airport that [REDACTED] was no relation to DAN COOPER.
---
At approximately 8:20 PM, after the plane had departed from Sea-Tac, I got a description of the UNSUB which [REDACTED] had obtained from one of the stewardesses. I called RUHL down at Portland, passing this description on to him and requested that he have the Agents at the airport recontact Northwest personnel who were on duty at the time the plane departed Portland, to determine again whether they could further identify the UNSUB.
