RE: NORJAC CAA - HIJACKING; EXTORTION OO: SE

Re Seattle report of SA CHARLES E. FARRELL dated 2/16/72.

Enclosed are four copies of an LHM for dissemination to Legat, Ottawa. One copy of the LHM is enclosed for Seattle for information.

During January, 1977, [REDACTED] Attorney at [REDACTED] Law, San Jose, California, advised that JASON THOMAS LANGSETH had filed for bankruptcy in July, 1976 and he had a client [REDACTED] LANGSETH. He stated during his efforts to determine financial ability of LANGSETH, an individual named [REDACTED] [REDACTED] LANGSETH, appeared and made several statements. [REDACTED] alleged that LANGSETH was, in fact, D.B. COOPER who had hijacked the Northwest Airlines Flight 305 in November, 1971, in Seattle, Washington.

He further advised that [REDACTED] alleged LANGSETH had been receiving funds from the Toronto Dominion Bank, Toronto, Canada, in small increments, which would over the years have amounted to over $200,000.

[REDACTED] stated he confronted LANGSETH with the information provided by [REDACTED] and LANGSETH indicated he had been exonerated by the FBI shortly after the incident and he was not, in fact, the individual who had hijacked that aircraft.

Interview of [REDACTED] San Jose, California, confirmed information provided by [REDACTED] and further indicated he was friends with LANGSETH for several years and that LANGSETH had made mention on several occasions that it was his desire to commit a perfect crime.

He stated that photographs of LANGSETH in 1971 at the time of the hijacking were very similar to COOPER, and he suspected strongly that LANGSETH was the individual known as D.P. COOPER.

He further advised that funds had been received by LANGSETH over a period of years from the Toronto Dominion Bank, Toronto, Canada, and when confronted, indicated that the funds were being provided by his in-laws, ARCHIE and GLADYS BRODIE, New Westminster, Vancouver, British Columbia.

---

Investigation previously conducted by the Seattle Division indicated that LANGSETH had, in fact, been inter- viewed and photographs displayed and did not appear to be identical to the Subject, however, efforts to confirm his whereabouts during November, 1971, were unsuccessful.

REQUEST OF THE BUREAU

The Bureau is requested to provided enclosed LHM to Legat, Ottawa to determine if LANGSETH has an account at the Toronto Dominion Bank, Toronto, Canada, and if he is known to authorities in that area.
