SAC, SEATTLE (164-81) 4/21/72

SA CHARLES E. FARRELL

NORJAK

RE: UNSUB;

---

At approximately 9:45 PM, 4/20/72, SA [REDACTED] Los Angeles Division, telephonically furnished the following information.

[REDACTED] advised that earlier on 4/20/72, when [REDACTED] was first approached by bureau Agents, he seemed shaken and said he did not wish to talk to the Agents further until he had a change to consult his attorney.

Later on the afternoon of 4/20/72, he contacted the Los Angeles office and agreed to be interviewed, but requested the Agents contact him away from the FBI office.

---

At approximately 5:00 PM, Agent TRUAX and SA BOB STRANGER proceeded to leave the Los Angeles office to contact [REDACTED]

---

When he called at 9:45 PM, [REDACTED] advised that [REDACTED] had furnished the following information concerning his trip to Seattle and although he seemed somewhat hesitant at times to fully disclose his activity, they felt that he would tell most of what he could remember. [REDACTED] advised that [REDACTED] had admitted that he and [REDACTED] had travelled to Seattle by air for the purpose of making a recording for a KARL FLEMING of Newsweek magazine. [REDACTED] advised that [REDACTED] was hired by FLEMING and that [REDACTED] who had been a fellow university [REDACTED] then contacted [REDACTED] for the purpose of making the recording. [REDACTED] travelled from Los Angeles to Seattle/by air in the late afternoon and when they arrived at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport they were paged by KARL FLEMING who was already there. They then proceeded to a motel which /64-81-[guess: 2006] [REDACTED] described as being on the water and within a few miles of where they rented a Hertz car the following day.

[REDACTED] said the three of them then went to dinner together at which time FLEMING briefed them on what he wanted done. He warned them not to ask too many questions so they would not know too much about the case itself.

They met at the motel where they all stayed the previous night at 7:00 AM the following morning.They were picked up at the motel by a driver supplied by FLEMING and they all then proceeded to a Hertz Rent-A-Car agency in downtown Seattle, where they rented a car. This car was not described by [REDACTED]

The driver supplied by FLEMING then drove [REDACTED] along a freeway in Seattle, along the Monorail and in a direction away from the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. They travelled about 20 minutes and then turned off and went to a "water-side spot" park which had benches and parking for perhaps as many as 50 cars.

[REDACTED] advised that he had rented equipment in Los Angeles for [REDACTED]

When they arrived at the aforementioned parking area he and [REDACTED] They also strung out [REDACTED] so that, when the [REDACTED] were some 100 feet away from where FLEMING and the other person were standing, [REDACTED] He advised that [REDACTED] was done out on the open beach. He stated that after he had the equipment set up they were at the remote control some 100 feet away when FLEMING and the other person with him came [REDACTED]

[REDACTED] advised that they previously had been instructed to block their ears and stated that in fact they did not hear [REDACTED] After about a 20 minute interview [REDACTED] and the person with him withdrew [REDACTED]

He described the person with FLEMING as follows:
