RE: ALLEN EUGENE YORK SUBJECT 606

Re Seattle memo of SA [REDACTED], 5/16/73.
Several attempts were made to contact ALLEN EUGENE YORK, Route 12, Box 487, Olympia, Washington, during June, 1973, with negative results.
On 7/3/73 [REDACTED], U.S. Post Office, Olympia, Washington, advised that his records reflected that ALLEN EUGENE YORK had moved from Route 12, Box 487 to 928 N. McCormick, Olympia, Washington.
On 7/3,6, 16, and 18, 1973 attempts were made to contact ALLEN EUGENE YORK at 928 N. McCormick, with negative results.
Also on 7/18/73, [REDACTED], Delson Lumber Company, 1821 West Bay Drive, Olympia, Washington, advised that ALLEN EUGENE YORK was on vacation until July 23, 1973. She stated she would have YORK contact the FBI upon his return to work.
On 7/23/73, ALLEN EUGENE YORK, 928 N. McCormick, Olympia, Washington, voluntarily appeared at the Olympia Resident Agency. Mr. YORK was advised by SA [REDACTED] that it had come to the attention of the FBI that he, YORK, had been a paratrooper, and was similar in appearance to the composite drawing of the hijacker known as D.B. COOPER in connection with the hijacking of a Northwest Orient Airlines on November 24, 1971.

Mr. YORK stated outright that he knew nothing concerning the hijacking other than what he had read in the newspapers and he had never been a paratrooper in the military nor had he ever had any experience of any kind as a parachutist. He added that he served in the United States Army during World War II in the 398th Engineers, 1st Battalion, Company A.
Mr. YORK specifically recalled his whereabouts on November 24, 1971 since this was the day before Thanksgiving and he had to go to the doctor's office in Olympia to see Doctor COKER concerning a leg injury. He stated that on or about November 20, 1971 while working at the Delson Lumber Company Mill he accidently struck himself in the thigh with a sledge hammer. He added that his leg was sore but did not really begin bothering him until the following Monday, November 22, 1971, and by November 24, 1971, he was having great difficulty walking and his leg was swollen. He stated that he had xrays but apparently did not have any broken bones.
Mr. YORK stated that he was in the doctor's office most of the morning until approximately 12:00 noon at which time he left the doctor's office, went to his home and gathered some belongings and along with his wife drove to Portland, Oregon, to visit his son, GARY ALLEN YORK, 1635 SW Battaglia Avenue, Gresham, Oregon. He stated that he and his wife arrived at approximately 3:00 PM in Portland and waited until approximately 4:30 that afternoon for his son and [REDACTED] to return to their residence. He added that he spent the rest of that day and Thanksgiving day with his son [REDACTED]
Mr. YORK stated he had no knowledge of the hijacking of the Northwest Orient Airlines and again stated he was in no way involved.

Mr. YORK added that although he was born in Adel, Iowa, from the age of 1 he has resided either in Oregon or Washington.
It should be noted that Mr. YORK was most cooperative in this matter and stated that he understood the FBI merely was doing it's job by checking into all persons who looked like the composite drawing of D.B. COOPER and he was in no way upset by this inquiry. It is suggested that no further investigation be conducted concerning Mr. YORK in view of the fact that he did have an injury prior to the date of the hijacking which would have made it highly unlikely he could have been involved and nothing has been developed in his background to indicate that he has any large sums of money.
It is suggested that should any further investigation be desired to eliminate Mr. YORK as a possible suspect in this matter that his drivers license photograph be displayed to any logical witness as the photograph on the drivers license is current and a good likeness of Mr. YORK.
