TOMPKINS stated he was now in Oakland for the purpose of obtaining a Super Cub Aircraft and pontoons from the Dusty Rhodes Marine Company, 1000 Embarcadero, Oakland. TOMPKINS stated a year ago he purchased the aircraft with $8,000 cash which had been given to him by JAMES KING, a close friend he has known all his life. KING is employed by the First National Bank of Portland, Oregon, as a Heavy Equipment Appraiser. The $8,000 was given to him by KING to purchase the aircraft and pontoons for KING. The aircraft was purchased in KING's name, and the cash was paid to Dusty Rhodes Marine Company. The bill of sale for the aircraft was made out in KING's name. He explained he is a pilot and that he has an agreement with KING to fly the aircraft in exchange for his (TOMPKINS) maintaining the aircraft at all times. He explained again that the $8,000 cash was given to him by KING over a year ago to purchase the aircraft for KING at that time, which he did.
